Piano Lessons Sutton Coldfield, Birmingham

Martin Rowberry (Dip.LCM)

VIDEO AND SKYPE PIANO LESSONS FROM YOUR OWN HOME - I am, if needed, able to offer video lessons whereby you don't need to leave your own home. It's very easy to setup and won't cost anything extra. All you will need is a mobile phone or tablet with a suitable app installed. Please contact me for more information. Learning music is a great experience and if you have extra time at home it can be a great way to escape and pass the time.

Ever wanted to learn your favourite song? Learn with a working musician and TV/Film Composer.

I believe having music lessons should be about what you're interested in and what inspires you. I have been a professional performer and composer for many years, and have experience both playing and writing music in numerous styles, ranging from classical through to pop, blues, jazz and funk!

Whether you want to take a traditional route of examinations or just play for fun, I will assess your needs from the first lesson and we will work towards what you enjoy.

Typical areas covered in a lesson include:-

  • Using an iPad for various interactive musical exercises such as pitch, rhythm, playing by ear and more
  • Keyboard Technique
  • Learning to read music and understanding notation
  • Playing popular tunes or songs by artists that you like
  • Improvisation
  • Playing by ear
  • Playing from memory
  • Understanding chords and harmony
  • Composition
  • Rhythm exercises

Please note: Whilst learning to read music is important, it is only one element that makes up learning to be a musician, having lots of variety is key!

Areas covered include Sutton Coldfield, Lichfield, Mere Green, Tamworth, Walsall, Cannock, Coleshill, Walmley, Hodge Hill, Erdington, Kingstanding, Mere Green and Four Oaks.

I am also available for group tuition and workshops, some of my previous experience includes working for Stagecoach, Birmingham Hippodrome and the Alexandra Theatre.

* My pupils have a 100% exam pass rate for exams in many different styles ranging from classical to pop and jazz! Some of the exam boards I work with are ABRSM, LCM, Rockschool and Trinity. Many pupils have gained Merits and Distinctions as well as being asked to perform in presentation concerts. Remember though, exams are entirely optional and in no way compulsory!

I can also specialize in any specific styles you might wish to cover for example; some people come to me specifically wanting to learn Blues or Jazz, whereas others may want a more traditional approach. I also provide tuition to other music teachers who wish to develop their skills in specific areas.

Piano lessons are taught using a Knight upright piano - it has a bright tone and a brilliant touch, perfect for playing all styles from classical to contemporary. Keyboard lessons are taught on a Yamaha PSR 61 note keyboard. I also run a home studio where pupils can have the chance to record their music!
